Protect Your Home During the Fumigation Process
The Torrance Police Department is continuing to experience residential burglaries in which suspects are targeting single family residences that are tented for fumigation.
The suspects in these cases are aware of the fact that once fans are placed in the homes to force air out and chemicals have been removed that it is safe to make entry into the residence. The suspects cut holes in the tents for access to the residences’ possibly open windows, make entry and take valuables left by homeowners. There have been numerous arrests in these cases, however the trend continues.
The Torrance Police Department recommends if you are planning on tenting your residence for fumigation to remove valuables and complete a Vacation Security Check request online. Completing this security check allows the Torrance Police Department to be aware that the residence is being fumigated and we can provide extra patrol to your home.
When filling out the Vacation Security Check make sure to type in “Fumigation” in the additional comments box so we are aware that it is a request due to fumigation not a vacation. Please fill out the Vacation Security Check request several days in advance so we can ensure processing. If you do not have access to a computer please call the Community Affairs Division at 310-618-6391 or 310-618-6392.
