On February 24, 2014, Officer Timothy Martin of the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office was on patrol on US 74 when he observed a vehicle driving erratically.
The vehicle was a 1993 Nissan Maxima, grey in color. The tag indicated the vehicle had an insurance stop and the registered owners license was revoked.
Officer Martin stopped the vehicle and the registered owner, Kelly Marie McCulloh was driving . Ms. McCulloh’s was cited for the revoked license.
Officer Martin asked Kelly McCulloh for consent to search and it was granted. A small amount of marijuana was found in a purse inside the car.
Sgt Alan Greene searched the trunk area of the vehicle and found a California Driver’s License with Kelly McCulloh’s picture on it, but with the personal information of someone else. A Wal-Mart credit card was found issued to the same identity as the California Driver’s License. Numerous receipts from Kohl’s and Macy’s were also found in the vehicle.
Kelly Marie McCulloh was arrested and transported to the Rutherford County Detention Facility. She was charged with identity theft, possession of marijuana, and possession of fraudulent documents. Kelly McCulloh’s bond was set at $75,000.00.
Officer Martin made contact with the victim of the identity theft in California. The victim advised someone had stolen her identity and attempted to get credit cards at Kohl’s and Macy’s.
Other agencies are involved in this case and it is under further investigation.
