Safeguard Your Home Against Residential Burglars

The Torrance Police Department is experiencing a rise in residential burglaries. The Torrance Police Department is taking a proactive role in reaching out and educating the public on what to look for as it relates to criminal activity and how to better safe guard your home.

In recent cases involving residential burglaries, suspects are dropped off in a residential area where they walk the neighborhood looking for a home that appears unoccupied. The suspects then force entry, search the interior of the residence for items of value and then flee the location.

An important step in preventing a home burglary is making sure your residence is as secure as possible. The Torrance Police Department is advising residents to take extra measures to safeguard their home by always locking your doors and windows when you leave your home. Unlocked doors and windows are the easiest way for criminals to enter a residence. Use window locks (top and bottom) or keep a broom handle or other long stick in the track of sliding glass doors. Taking these types of preventative measure may deter a break in. A careful inspection by someone trained to observe security precautions can indicate features which would make entry easy or difficult for a prospective burglar.

The Torrance Police Department appreciates the opportunity to be of assistance to you in the community's fight against crime. We urge you not only to take steps to make your own residence safer, but also to become active in a Neighborhood Watch program for the benefit of your entire community.
