Advisory

Loma Linda-Sheriff's Department conducts crosswalk enforcement operation near hospitals.

The City of Loma Linda is centered on healthcare, education, and government. The City’s residential population is approximately 24,000 and swells to over 60,000 during the day due to the employees, patients, and students of Loma Linda Medical University Medical Center as well as the ever expanding Veteran’s Affairs Hospital. With the influx of this amount of people there comes the concern for public safety. Though expansions have been made to assist with parking near both hospitals a large number of people still walk and ride bicycles to and from the area. This has raised the concern for pedestrian safety while crossing heavily traveled roadways surrounding the hospitals.

On 02/18/14, between 1100-1500 hours, deputies from the City of Loma Linda, the City of Highland, and the City of Rancho Cucamonga conducted crosswalk violation enforcement. Deputies concentrated their efforts in the areas surrounding Loma Linda University Medical Center, the Veterans Affairs Hospital, and areas of increased vehicle code violations within the city. Deputies conducted over 50 traffic enforcement stops within the four hours and issued 46 traffic citations for various vehicle code violations including 28 crosswalk violations.
