APD Officers Seize $400,000 Worth of Illegal Drugs

The Special Assignment Unit (SAU) of the Anchorage Police Department successfully seized a package containing a high volume of illegal drugs on Wednesday, February 19, 2014. SAU Officers were contacted by a local motel regarding a suspicious package being sent to a guest. Officers made contact with the individual the package was addressed to and obtained a search warrant for the package. A kilo of cocaine was seized in addition to a half-kilo of heroin; the combined street value of the drugs totaled $400,000 and the wholesale value of the drugs was estimated at $151,000. The recipient of the package, 27-year-old Markee Allen of California, was detained pending federal charges. Markee Allen was charged earlier today in a federal complaint with attempting to possess cocaine and heroin with intent to distribute it to others. He is expected to be arraigned in federal court tomorrow afternoon.

Note: A criminal charge is merely an accusation of criminal wrongdoing. All persons charged with crimes are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty by a court of law.
