On Sunday 02/16/2014 at 1641 hours, deputies with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office were called to the area of 157 Main Street in Mooresboro in reference to a subject that had been shot.
Upon arrival officers quickly secured the scene for EMS and began a search for the suspect.
Moments after officers arrived on location Officer Max Gee took the suspect into custody close to the scene.
According to witnesses, John Randall Collins, 30 year old white male of 157 Main St. Mooresboro, NC was in a verbal dispute with John Michael Earley, 39 year old white male of 291 Old Church St. Mooresboro, NC.
Witnesses stated that during the dispute Mr. Collins pulled a small caliber handgun and fired one shot.
Mr. Earley was hit in the lower left area of his abdomen; and was flown to Spartanburg Regional for treatment of his injuries.
Detective Joey Sisk charged John Randall Collins with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
Mr. Collins is currently being held at the Rutherford County Jail under a $250,000.00 secured bond. His first appearance was held on 02/17/2014.
The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
As of 02/17/2014 the victim, John Michael Earley, is listed in good condition at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center and is expected to be released either today or tomorrow.
