Help prevent vehicle theft: do not leave vehicles running, unlocked, and unoccupied.

Word from the Street

During a recent search of an Anchorage mid-town neighborhood, APD Captain Dave Koch made an alarming observation. “As I drove around the inside perimeter, looking for a possibly armed car-thief/burglar suspect, I couldn’t help but notice the large number of cars running, unoccupied, and unlocked in the driveways. This added to the danger of our suspect escaping the perimeter and possibly inflicting further harm on our citizens.”

While we all recognize that our cold winter months pose a challenge for motorists who must warm up their vehicles before driving them, this situation is an important reminder for all of us: VEHICLES LEFT RUNNING, UNLOCKED, AND UNOCCUPIED ARE EASY TARGETS FOR THIEVES. Taking the time to ensure your vehicle is secure can go a long way toward preventing vehicle theft!
