Serial Robbery Suspect Arrested by Gardena Patrol Officers

On Wednesday, February 12, 2014, the Gardena Police Department arrested Walter James Mack, 26 years old, from Los Angeles on suspicion of committing eight robberies, seven of which were committed on Tuesday, February 11, 2014.

The robbery spree began on Friday, February 7, 2014 when Mack robbed a Subway sandwich shop in the City of Hawthorne.

On February 11, 2014 Mack robbed five Subway shops in Hawthorne, Gardena and Los Angeles along with a Little Caesar’s restaurant in Gardena and 7-Eleven in Hawthorne.

Information obtained from witnesses and victims coupled with the collaborative effort of detectives from Gardena PD, Hawthorne PD, and LAPD resulted in the positive identification of the suspect and his vehicle (a 2010 blue Chevrolet Malibu).

Patrol officers from Gardena PD were provided the information about the suspect during patrol briefings on Tuesday evening. By 2:30AM on Wednesday morning, the suspect was located and arrested by Gardena patrol officers.

Mack is being held at the Gardena Police Department in lieu of $120,000 bail. He will be arraigned in Torrance Superior Court on Friday, February 14, 2014.
