Two local men who were allegedly breaking into vehicles at Wal-Mart Sunday afternoon were arrested on felony and misdemeanor charges.
William Tate White, 48, who lists an address of 162 Highway 290, and Larry Lee Linder, 51, who lists an address of 280 Brookhill Ranch Trail, were both taken into custody shortly after 1:30 p.m. and each charged with a felony count of breaking or entering, punishable by up to six years in prison, and a misdemeanor count of shoplifting, punishable by up to one year in jail. Both White and Linder also had warrants for failure to appear and White remained in custody Monday in lieu of $6,000 bond and Linder remained in custody in lieu of $3,500 bond. Both are set to appear Feb. 25 in district court.
According to reports, GCSD Deputies Ron Stone and R. Green were dispatched to Wal-Mart, 3604 Highway 7 north, in reference to two males seen breaking into tool boxes in the back of vehicles in the parking lot.
Witnesses stated the suspects were driving a turquoise four-door car and a check of the license plate they had seen showed it to be a green 1994 Toyota Corolla which the deputies found at Dollar General, 4804 Highway 7 north, a short time later.
They located two men, identified as White and Linder, standing outside the front door of the store, and when they were asked to empty their pockets it was found they had packages of lunch meat and cheese they had allegedly shoplifted.
In their vehicle, they found items including a socket set and painting supplies that had been stolen from the toolbox of a Jessieville man at Wal-Mart.
The victim came to the scene and reportedly identified the items and the two suspects were taken into custody.
