Advisory

Wintery mix forecasted for tomorrow, but severe storm with ice forecasted for Wednesday.

A wintery mix of rain, snow and sleet is forecasted for tomorrow, but as of this moment a severe winter storm with heavy ice accumulations is expected for all day Wednesday into Thursday morning. Although the weather prognosis has been evolving and changing, news officials have been warning of possible wide spread power outages because of the ice accumulations. Now is the time to prepare and take precautions. In addition to the tips we have already distributed, we would like to make a few more suggestions to help you in your preparation.
-Use ICE/rock salt or kitty litter around your sidewalks and driveway to help prevent falls.
-Be sure to check up on elderly or disabled neighbors and relatives during the storm to ensure they are staying warm and safe.
-Make sure you protect and shelter any out door pets and bring them inside out of the weather.
-Make sure any space heaters used in your home is approved for indoor use. DO NOT use outdoor rated propane space heaters inside your home. Keep space heaters away from carpet, furniture or anything flammable.
-Be aware of the possibility of freezing pipes. Leave water dripping and cabinet doors open below sinks so warm air can reach the pipes.
-Stay off the roads especially if they are icy. All wheel drive and 4 wheel drive vehicles do not operate well on icy roads. If you don't have to be out then stay home. This will allow the sand trucks and first responders better access to treat roads and respond to emergencies.
