Advisory

Here are a list of tips and preparations for the upcoming winter weather to help ensure your safety

The Marietta Police Department wants to help ensure your safety and preparedness for the upcoming winter weather. Although the exact impact of the approaching storm is still being debated, now is the time to prepare you and your family. Here at MPD we have taken precautions to ensure that we will be there if and when you need us.
-All vehicles will be equipped with chains and we have extra staffing on standby in case they are needed.
-Our Crisis Management Center is already primed and ready for deployment that moment it is needed.
-Sand trucks are on stand by and officers have been assigned to these sand trucks to help then navigate quickly through traffic to troubled roadways.
-Message boards are already deployed to warn drivers at areas where icy conditions make the road almost impassable.

To help ensure your safety during this storm please look over these preparedness tips and make sure you have everything you need.
-Stay off the roads especially if they are icy. All wheel drive and 4 wheel drive vehicles do not operate well on icy roads. If you don't have to be out then stay home. This will allow the sand trucks and first responders better access to treat roads and respond to emergencies.
-Make sure you have enough food for a few days. Being iced or snowed in is not the time to find out you are out or very low on food and water.
-Have extra batteries and candles on hand for lighting in case of a power outage.
-If you are using a generator during a power outage make sure the generator is outside so poisonous fumes do not fill up your home.
-Have a battery operated radio on hand to listen for emergency broadcasts and weather updates.
-Make sure all cell phones remain fully charged and only use them when you need them in case you are unable to recharge them.
-Keep an emergency kit in your vehicle with a sleeping bag or blankets, food and water in case you get stranded on the road.
-Make sure your car has a full tank of gas.
-If you have a fireplace at home, prep it now with dry wood and keep all extra wood in a dry place. Have it ready to go in case of power failure to help keep you and your family warm.
