Advisory

Weekly Rosemead Blvd Construction Advisory

NOTE: New items are asterisked.

REPORTING PERIOD:
Week of Feb. 10, 2014

CONSTRUCTION AREA:
Rosemead Boulevard within Temple City limits—i.e., from Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) underpass on the south to Callita Street on the north.

*CONSTRUCTION HOURS:
Monday–Friday, 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.; 9 p.m. – 5 a.m.

NOTE: Starting this week through Feb. 21, there will be night work for resurfacing operations. Please note that in the event nighttime temperatures do not reach above 50°F, repaving may need to occur in the daytime. There is no construction on rainy days. To keep with the latest project updates, visit www.rosemeadblvd.com. Work may occasionally occur on weekends, and/or during holidays.

*PLANNED ACTIVITIES:
Detailing work is ongoing along the sidewalks installing street furniture—i.e., bike racks, bus shelters, etc. Crews are also working in the curbside lane for landscaping and tree planting north of Las Tunas Drive.

Roadway resurfacing begins Feb. 10 and lasts for two weeks. Major work will occur at night and involve grinding and removing the existing pavement during the first week, and repaving during the second week with a new longer lasting, eco-friendly material. Grinding work will be performed in segments, as follows:
Feb. 10 Pentland Street to Broadway
Feb. 11 Broadway to K-Mart Shopping Center Main Entrance
Feb. 12 K-Mart Shopping Center Main Entrance to Hermosa Drive
Feb. 13 Hermosa Drive to Longden Avenue
Feb. 14 Longden Avenue to northern City limit (at Callita Street)

Please note that scheduling is subject to change pending weather; for the latest update, please visit www.rosemeadblvd.com.

*ANTICIPATED IMPACTS:
Lane Closure: During resurfacing activities Rosemead Boulevard will be reduced to one traffic lane in each direction, with occasional short-term interruptions to traffic flow. Please pay attention to signage, traffic controls, localized detours around intersections, and workers in roadways. As part of activities, there will be an increased number of semi-trucks.

Noise & Dust: During grinding, residents within a 300-foot vicinity of activities may experience noise impact. To mitigate airborne dust, crews will use water-spray and industrial vacuum sweepers. We apologize for any inconvenience and greatly appreciate your understanding.

Driveway Access: In Week 2, during repaving of the right lane, driveway access in the immediate segment will be blocked for four hours to allow curing. Affected residents needing to use driveways between 9 p.m.-5 a.m. are advised to park on adjacent side streets. Enforcement of overnight parking restrictions will be relaxed for impacted residents.

Bicycle & Pedestrian Access: Sidewalks may occasionally be restricted/closed. Pedestrians and cyclists are cautioned not to enter barricaded work areas or walk in traffic. Obey all worksite signage and be on alert for incomplete or closed sidewalk segments. Onsite crews are instructed to provide as-needed assistance to pedestrians passing construction areas.

While bike lanes between UPRR and Las Tunas are accessible, users are cautioned that permanent signage and striping are yet installed, and the area remains a construction zone.

No Parking: There is no parking on Rosemead Boulevard until further notice. Cars parked on the street and obstructing traffic may be ticketed and towed.

Trash Pick-Up: Biweekly service is expected to continue as scheduled. Trash cans should be placed on the sidewalk, and not in the street.

Please note that occasional high traffic may prevent trucks from reaching Rosemead Boulevard customers. In such rare cases, service will occur the next scheduled pick-up date.

Report Debris: To report displaced traffic control devices or disorderly construction conditions for cleanup, call the hotline at (626) 476-7376.

TIPS & REMINDERS:
When traveling through the construction area, drivers, cyclists and pedestrians are asked to be patient, proceed with caution, and obey flaggers and the law at all times.

A 30 mph speed limit is in effect on Rosemead Boulevard between UPRR and Callita.Sheriffs are actively enforcing the construction area for speeding and unsafe driving. Per state law, fines for moving violations are doubled within construction zones.

For your safety and that of workers, do not enter or travel in the blockaded construction lane at any time. In areas where the right lane of traffic is coned off, motorists must turn into driveways from the next available open lane.

Exercise caution, pay attention to posted signage and watch for uneven ground in the construction zone.

When traveling along Rosemead Boulevard, watch for cross traffic and consider yielding to those seeking to merge.

During inclement weather, pedestrians and transit riders are advised to carry umbrellas as needed while bus shelters and benches are restored.

For project-related questions, comments or concerns, speak directly with a City representative by calling the designated hotline at (626) 476-7376. Onsite crews are not responsible for addressing public inquiries, as such may hinder work progress.
