Subject: Sexual Assault Investigation
On the morning of February 5, 2014, the Sun Prairie Police Department received information from the high school administration regarding an inappropriate relationship involving a school staff member and a student. The relationship was between a female support staff member and a 17-year-old male student.
The police department initiated an investigation in partnership with the school district. It was determined that the relationship began in November of 2013 and became inappropriate over the following month.
The staff member was identified as Janet S. Kula, age 25. Kula was taken into custody for Sexual Assault of a Child by a School Staff Person - WI Statute 948.095 (2) and transported to the Dane County Public Safety Building.
The case will be under review with the Dane County District Attorney’s Office and there are no further details available for release at this time.
Pursuant to the directive of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, as found in Supreme Court Rule 20:3.6, Trial Publicity, you are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
