Health advisory issued for Mount Kisco area residents due to the dicovery of a rabid cat in the area of Moore Avenue/Woodland Street.
The Westchester County Health Department has issued a rabies alert to Mount Kisco residents who may have had contact with a small tabby shorthaired stray cat in the area of Moore Avenue/Woodland Street on or before February 1, 2014. The cat was confirmed rabid on February 4 and had previously been observed fighting with a tortoise shell (brown and black with reddish markings) colored cat. Anoyone who believes he, she, a child or a pet may have had contact with this cat should contact the Westchester County Health Department IMMEDIATELY at 914-813-5000 to assess the need for life-saving treatment. Anyone bitten by a rabid animal or having contact with its saliva may need to receive immediate rabies treatment. When administered early, before symptoms develop, the treatment is 100% effective. Once symptoms occur, whether in animals or humans, rabies is fatal.
