Local man arrested after allegedly attacking girlfriend

A local man was arrested late Tuesday after allegedly attacking and choking his pregnant girlfriend and threatening her with a gun.
Joshua Lee Britt, 27, of 2299 Highway 290, was taken into custody shortly before 8:30 p.m. and charged with a felony count of third-degree domestic battery, punishable by up to six years in prison.
He was still being held without bond Wednesday and is set to appear Feb. 25 in Garland County District Court.
According to reports, shortly after 8 p.m., Garland County sheriff’s Cpl. Josh Cannon and Deputy Clayton Green were dispatched to the Highway 290 residence regarding a domestic fight with a gun and were told the suspect had left the area in a black pickup.
Green was on Carpenter Dam Road en route to the call and looking for the suspect when Cannon spotted it on Rushfork Road and got behind it. Green made contact with the victim, 22, and she told him the suspect’s pickup had a green “Monster” sticker on the back and the tags would return to a different vehicle.
Cannon confirmed it was the pickup and stopped it in the 500 block of Pittman Road and detained the suspect, identified as Britt. The deputy checked Britt and the pickup and could not locate a gun, but took Britt in custody because the victim indicated she wanted to press charges.
The victim told Cannon that Britt was her boyfriend and they have a small child together. She also noted she is 10 weeks pregnant with another child by Britt.
She said they got into an argument as they were pulling into the driveway to their residence and when she went to get their son out of the vehicle, Britt grabbed her by the neck and choked her for 10 to 15 seconds so she couldn’t breathe.
She states she ran inside to tell her sister, 20, who also lived there, to call the police. She states Britt followed her inside and got in her face yelling at her and then went into another room and grabbed “some type of long gun” she believed was a shotgun.
She states he told her he would “put a bullet in her head” and then left the residence.
Deputies noted a slight redness to the victim’s neck and the victim’s sister said Britt attacked the victim and pulled “some type of gun” on her. The report notes the gun was never located.
