The Gibson County Sheriff's Office would like to alert residents that there is a new scam surfacing in the area. Recently a concerned citizen called to report that a girl called their residence claiming to be their granddaughter. This girl knew the actual granddaughter's name and was pretending to be her on the phone. The scam "artist" told the citizen that she had been involved in a wreck in the Dominican Republic, and quickly hung up once the citizen saw through the scam.

The Gibson County Sheriff's Office encourages everyone to be on guard when they receive suspicious phone calls.

Good rules of thumb are "If It Sounds too good to be true... It probably is." "You DON"T have to pay to win a prize." "Do you Homework."

In this case the concerned called their granddaughter to make sure that she was infact ok.
