Steuben remains yellow travel advisory

Steuben County Commissioners in cooperation with the Sheriff, Emergency management and the County Highway have extended the yellow Travel Advisory throughout the weekend. The NWS has advised of a Hazardous weather outlook that is listed below. Conditions will be monitored throughout the weekend with a re-evaluation Sunday at noon. An update shortly thereafter can be expected. Should conditions deteriorate prior, updates will be sent out to all media outlets, the Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, Nixle Alerts and posted on www.steubensheriff.com

Again, giving yourself plenty of travel time, distance between traveling vehicles and slowing down well in advance at up-coming intersections will help ensure safe arrival to pending destinations. Please be extra careful when traveling on county roads, some remain snow and ice covered as well as narrow lanes of travel.

THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR PORTIONS OF NORTHWEST OHIO, SOUTHWEST LOWER MICHIGAN AND NORTHERN INDIANA.

DAY ONE...TODAY AND TONIGHT

LIGHT SNOW IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP SOUTH OF ROUTE 6 THIS AFTERNOON. THE SNOW WILL OVERSPREAD THE ENTIRE REGION THIS EVENING. ONE TO TWO INCHES OF SNOW IS EXPECTED BY DAYBREAK SATURDAY.

DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...SATURDAY THROUGH THURSDAY

A MIX OF SNOW...SLEET...AND FREEZING RAIN SATURDAY MORNING IS EXPECTED. THE WINTRY PRECIPITATION WILL LIKELY CHANGE TO ALL RAIN BY SATURDAY FTERNOON...ALONG AND SOUTHEAST OF ROUTE 24. A BAND OF ICE ACCUMULATION UP TO ONE TENTH OF AN INCH INTO SOUTH CENTRAL
LOWER MICHIGAN. WINTRY DRIVING CONDITIONS ARE LIKELY SATURDAY MORNING...BUT WILL IMPROVE OVER AREAS WHERE THE TEMPERATURE RISES ABOVE FREEZING.

THERE IS POTENTIAL FOR ANOTHER WINTER STORM TO IMPACT THE AREA TUESDAY THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT WITH HEAVY SNOW. PLEASE STAY TUNED TO THE LATEST FORECASTS AND UPDATES REGARDING THIS SYSTEM.
