The Sheriff's Homicide Division is asking for the public's help in identifying additional victims or witnesses in connection with an assault in Spring Valley.
On January 14th just before 7:00 p.m., 61‐year old Daniel Sparks was found lying in the intersection of Gillespie Drive and Frederick Street with his head bleeding. It is believed two young men attacked him. Sparks was taken to a hospital, treated and released. Days later, Sparks was found unconscious in the 9000 block of Jamacha Road. He was taken to a hospital where he died the next day.
The investigation into Sparks' attack led to the discovery of two more assaults in the area where two other victims were struck in the head with a skateboard. Two suspects in connection with the attacks have since been identified as a 17‐year‐old male and 18‐year‐old Javier Garcia. Both suspects are now in custody. They are facing charges of assault with a deadly weapon causing great bodily injury and attempted robbery.
Homicide Detectives believe there may be additional unidentified victims and/or witnesses to these crimes.
