Beware of scam where victim is called by a person stating they are from Entergy & that the victim has an unpaid bill

Beware of scam where victim is called by a person stating they are from Entergy and that the victim has an unpaid bill that must be paid within 45 minutes or their power will be disconnected.

The Garland County Sheriffs Department was notified by a victim who stated that on January 24, 2014 that her husband received a call at their business from a person stating they were from Entergy. The caller stated that they had not paid their bill and if it was not paid within 45 minutes that the power to the business would be disconnected. The victim stated she spoke with her husband about the phone call and called the number back to try and resolve the issue over the phone.

The victim called the phone number back and spoke with "Jennifer" and she told the victim that they owed $986.23 to Entergy. The victim told "Jennifer" that she wanted to pay the bill with a credit card, and was then transferred to a man named "Charlie". Charlie told the victim that if she used a credit card to pay the bill it would take two days for it to process and that their service would still be disconnected. "Charlie" then advised the victim to go to Wal-Mart and purchase two Green Dot money pack scratch off cards, one for $500.00 and the other for $486.23. He then told the victim to call back with the numbers on the card and that would take care of the payment and disconnection.

The victim stated she contacted Entergy because there may have been a problem when payments were made in previous months and were possibly posted to the wrong account . Entergy advised the victim that her account was in good standing and had always been.

The Garland County Sheriffs Department were also notified by a second victim who also received a call from a person claiming to be with Entergy. The victim stated that the caller asked for $986.23 for the amount of her December electric bill.
