Deputies are reporting areas, especially those that are more rural, where there is ZERO visibility while driving. Whiteout conditions, some black ice, and large drifts are also being reported throughout the County. Plow crews are out working but the deteriating weather is making it hard to keep up. Remember to give plows space to safely work.
In western McHenry County we are recieving more reports of traffic crashes and cars getting stuck/ sliding in the ditch. Wide open lands are causing extreme drifting with these strong winds.
We are encouraging you to stay home and not travel if at all possible. If you must go out, please plan ahead: have warm weather gear with you, a charged cell phone, a full tank of gas, and other emergency supplies. Please also tell friends or family that you will be out, your planned route , and your destination.
