Advisory

Snow Slide Gulch Avalanche

PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Saturday January 25, 2014
6:30 PM

As a result of the Alaska Department of Transportation’s (ADOT) avalanche control efforts, another significant slide occurred at Snow Shoot Gulch in Keystone Canyon that may be larger than the original one. Water is filling back up again behind the snow and debris. ADOT has suspended operations for the evening and will have to wait for the water to find its way out. The City of Valdez is opening up the shelter at the high school again and is suggesting that residents from Nordic and Alpine Woods Subdivisions again consider a voluntary evacuation. The Valdez animal shelter is also available again to take pets.

Additional information will be provided as soon as it is available.
