Fatal Traffic Accident Involving Pedestrian
On January 24th 2014, at approximately 6:18 am, officers from the Torrance Police Department responded to a fatal traffic collision at Pacific Coast Highway and Calle Mayor.
On arrival, officers discovered that a 2014 Ford Explorer was traveling northbound on Pacific Coast Highway and collided with a pedestrian who was walking eastbound across the street. The pedestrian suffered major injuries and was transported to a local area hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
The victim is a 79-year-old female out of Torrance and her name is being withheld pending notification to a next of kin.
The driver of the Ford Explorer was not injured.
Northbound traffic on Pacific Coast Highway at Calle Mayor was closed for approximately three hours during the investigation.
This collision is being investigated by the Torrance Police Department’s Traffic Division under the command of Captain Bernard Anderson, Commander of the Special Operations Bureau.
