Police Investigating Commercial Robbery & Safety Tips

The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department advises residents and businesses of commercial robberies that have occurred in the Town and City of Poughkeepsie. Most recently, an Arlington business in the Town was robbed at knifepoint on Tuesday January 21st at 6:46 p.m. Similar to several incidents in the City, the suspects have been described as two or three black males that enter the business, display a knife and demand money. The suspects seem to be targeting businesses that have cash readily available.

Whether you’re an employee working at a business or a resident who walks into a robbery in progress, we recommend the following:

•Dial 911 as soon as safely possible
•Cooperate with demands made by the suspect(s)
•Make note of the suspects physical description such as race, height, weight, age, clothing or other notable descriptors
•Safely observe the direction of travel the suspects take when exiting the business. If a car is involved, note the vehicle description such as the color, vehicle style (SUV, 2-door, 4-door etc.), and if possible the license plate
•If businesses have surveillance video, check to confirm the equipment is functioning and recording properly
•If you see something or someone suspicious, do not hesitate to call the police

Anyone with information concerning the recent robberies is asked to call the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department at 845-485-3666. You can also leave an anonymous tip on our website at www.townpolice.net.
