Compton Station partnered with Champions of Caring Connections, Inc., for the 6th year, to bring joy to hundreds during their annual Christmas toy give away, “Share for A Cause.”

On December 21, 2013, Compton Station partnered with Champions of Caring Connections, Inc., for the 6th year, to bring joy to hundreds during their annual Christmas toy give away, “Share for A Cause.” The event was held at the Compton Sheriff’s Youth Activities League. Homeless families or families in transitional housing were treated to a live band and lunch. Each child received a gift from Champions of Caring Connections volunteers. The children were also treated to a face painting booth, where they requested snowmen and snowflake pictures on their cheeks.
The event is welcomed every year by the families invited to the celebration. This year 908 people were served, 673 children and 235 adults. Some families were in line for the event from as early as 5:00 AM. Although the line was long and the wait even longer, in the end, children and their families came out with smiles on their faces and toys for Christmas. Deputies and reserve deputies from Compton station were at the event helping the volunteers coordinate the activities.
The families invited to the event are referred to Champions of Caring from the Compton School District. Some families are also chosen from the homeless and low income families in the Compton area who receive first responder social services by Champions of Caring.
