A local man initially arrested after allegedly slapping his girlfriend was soon facing other charges when drugs and paraphernalia were reportedly found in his vehicle.
Decente M. Johnson, 24, who lists an address of 353 Parkshores Road, was taken into custody shortly after 4:30 p.m. and charged with third-degree domestic battery, possession of a controlled substance, marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia, all misdemeanors punishable by up to one year in jail.
Johnson was initially held without bond but had bonded out as of Wednesday morning and is set to appear Jan. 28 in Garland County District Court.
According to reports, GCSD Deputy Shane Tatum was dispatched to 400 Little Mazarn Road in reference to a disturbance shortly after 3:30 p.m. and spoke to the victim, 21, who stated the suspect, her boyfriend, identified as Johnson, had left the scene.
The victim stated Johnson had slapped her across the right side of her face causing her ear to “pop.” The deputy noted the victim had redness on her right cheek.
Johnson was spotted about 30 minutes later in the 500 block of Ouachita Avenue driving a gold Chevrolet Malibu and stopped and taken into custody. He was asked if there were any narcotics in the vehicle, and after a brief pause he told the deputy to look in a camouflage bag in the center console.
The deputy asked the female passenger to retrieve the bag, which was found to contain a zip-lock bag with several other sandwich bags, digital scales and a pill bottle. The bottle was found to contain five individual bags of marijuana, approximately 7.7 grams total. The camouflage bag also contained 14 other empty pill bottles and two empty fruit jars.
