The Oakland Police Department would like to share with the community the power of information sharing and community networking. In the last half hour the Berkeley Police Department requested assistance from OPD in locating a missing person at risk. We sent out a NIXLE Alert to our community members in the targeted area. Shortly after sending the NIXLE Alert, a subscriber, who was enjoying an evening walk received the alert and realized the missing man had just walked past her. She immediately contacted the Berkeley Police Department and the at risk man is now safe.
BACKGROUND: The Berkeley Police Department (BPD) is currently searching for a missing person at risk, due to a medical condition, dementia.
Missing is Monte Winterhalter a white male, 61 years old. He is 6'4",approx. 185 pounds with gray hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a black jacket, orange long sleeve shirt, blue jeans and white tennis shoes.
He was last seen at 8:00 a.m. near Ashby Avenue and Domingo Road. He recently moved to Berkeley and is unfamiliar with the area.
BPD is currently in the area searching for Mr. Winterhalter and is seeking the community's help.
If anyone has seen Mr. Winterhalter please immediately contact the Berkeley Police Department by calling 911 or 510-981-5900. Any information could assist us in locating Mr. Winterhalter.
