Department of Corrections staff members and local law enforcement are searching for a missing state prison inmate in Sioux Falls.
Inmate Geoffrey Peterson failed to return to Unit C, the minimum-security unit of the Jameson Annex to the South Dakota State Penitentiary, from his work release job in Sioux Falls this evening.
Peterson is a 43-year old Native American male with dark hair and brown eyes. He is 5-feet-11 inches tall and weighs approximately 215 pounds.
Peterson is currently serving a 10-year sentence with 5 years suspended from Minnehaha County for fifth-offense DWI.
There are more than 900 minimum-security inmates housed across the state. Nearly 200 of those inmates are on work release status, including 74 in the Sioux Falls area.
