On the early morning hours of January 12th, 2014, David Price, age 27, from Morgan Hill was seen by an off-duty Morgan Hill Police Officer speeding through a residential neighborhood. The Officer became concerned when Price’s vehicle collided into a curb and onto the sidewalk of Oak Creek Park and fled the scene. The Officer followed Price as he headed eastbound on Watsonville Road towards Monterey Road at a high rate of speed, often drifting into the opposite lane of traffic. As Price headed southbound on Monterey Road he again crossed into opposing traffic. Soon after, he made an abrupt turn onto east Middle Avenue and fish tailed his car nearly colliding into street signs. A Santa Clara County deputy attempted to stop Price but Price ignored the deputies’ emergency lights and siren. After a short failure to yield, Price stopped on east Middle Avenue at Llagas Road in San Martin. Price who smelled of alcohol was uncooperative with the officers as he was taken into custody. Later at the Morgan Hill Police Department, Price used a hidden handcuff key in an attempt to escape from Morgan Hill’s Police Facility. Price was unsuccessful as Officers monitoring him prevented him from escaping. David Price was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for DUI and attempting to escape police custody.
