Traffic Unit Activity for Dec 31, 2013 to Jan 3, 2014

This fatal collision occurred on 12/31/2013 at 2254 hrs on Paseo Padre Parkway south of Mowry Ave. Following an argument with family members, two sisters got out of a vehicle stopped northbound on Paseo Padre at Mowry. The 19 year old woman took her 3 month old boy out of the vehicle by removing a convertible car seat and her 17 year old sister joined her. The sisters started walking west across Paseo Padre in the middle of the block, between Mowry Ave and Capitol Ave, when they were hit by a pickup truck being driven by a 64 year old man who was south bound on Paseo Padre. The 19 year old woman was transported to a local hospital and died from her injuries. The 17 year old girl was transported to a local hospital where she was treated and released for non-life threatening injuries. The 3 month old boy was transported to a local hospital and admitted for treatment of life threatening injuries. The Fremont Police Traffic Unit investigated the collision. Ofc Aranguren is the lead investigator.

This injury collision occurred on 1/4/2014 at 0140 hours on State Route 84 at Interstate 880. A 29 year old man who was driving a Honda Accord ran a red light east bound on SR84 and rear ended a Toyota Corolla that was being driven by a 29 year old man. A 24 year old man who was a passenger in the Corolla was transported to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Ofc Nordseth investigated the collision and arrested the 29 year old driver of the Honda for felony DUI.

 

 

Special Enforcement:

 

1/3/2014: Traffic Unit officers and detectives from both Fremont and Newark worked the south end of Fremont in response to an increase in street racing and reckless driving activity. Several contacts were made with cooperative car enthusiasts at Pacific Commons. There were no incidents of racing or reckless driving. Special thanks to the Fremont PD Street Crimes Unit, Newark PD Street Crimes Unit, and members of the Major Crimes Task Force for participation and support.
