Los Altos Police seeking tips to identify suspects in home burglary attempt
The Los Altos Police Department is investigating an attempted home burglary that took place on December 27, 2013 at approximately 1:43 p.m. on Truman Avenue near Fremont Avenue.
With one suspect remaining in a vehicle parked on the street, the second suspect approached the home and knocked on the door. After no one answered, the suspect kicked open the front door to gain access to the residence. Once inside the home, the suspect ran into the homeowner, leading him to flee the residence without taking any items.
The suspect is described as a 6-foot-tall Latino male in his 30s, wearing boots and a green construction safety vest. The suspect’s getaway vehicle is described as a white “construction type” van with a sliding side door and no rear passenger windows on either side. The van was parked within view of motorists traveling along the Truman and Fremont Avenue intersection at the time.
The intersection was experiencing heavy traffic at the time of the burglary attempt so it is likely someone in the area may have seen the vehicle and driver. Residents are encouraged to come forward if they can provide any additional details about the suspects or the van, which may have displayed a company logo, or if anyone from the public may have seen the van at a nearby construction site earlier that day.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Los Altos Police Department at (650) 947-2770.
As a reminder, it is common for potential burglars to first knock on the front door of a residence to establish whether or not someone is home. If you hear a knock on your door, even if you do not wish to answer, it is advisable to speak up or make some noise to deter potential burglars from breaking in. Always report suspicious activity to the Police Department either by dialing 9-1-1 or (650) 947-2770.
