LOCAL SHERIFF OFFERS TIPS FOR SAFETY DURING FREEZING TEMPERATURES

“With Freezing Weather Forecasts facing us, sometimes we don’t consider the serious conditions of these elements as we should.” said Sheriff Marshall of Stokes County.

Safety measures should not be neglected. According to Sheriff Marshall, “The current weather forecasts should be taken very serious.”

The Sheriff reminds all Stokes County residents to follow these safety tips:

Safety Tips For Freezing Weather:

• Please check your carbon monoxide and smoke detectors.
• Be aware of the dangers of using space heaters. Keep
them a good distance from flammable objects while in
use, and read their warning labels for additional safety tips.
• Use appropriate metal screens and other recommended
devices in front of fireplaces when in use.
• Protect water pipes with proper insulation methods.
• Think SAFETY for children if they must go out into the cold
weather, by using proper and warm clothing.
• Prepare your vehicles and car batteries for freezing weather,
as recommended by your vehicle manufacturer and/or
owner’s manual. Make sure you have plenty of gasoline in
your tank if you are on the road.
• Check and replenish food and drink supplies. Have supplies
on hand even when traveling in your vehicle.
• Check and make sure flashlights properly operate.
• Use the “What if this happened” strategy as you prepare for
freezing weather.

Sheriff Marshall states; “We need to keep a check on our neighbors, our seniors as well as a close eye on our children in times like this, and to stay inside if at all possible.”

Sheriff Marshall further cautions our Stokes County Citizens, “Please do not underestimate cold temperatures. It is very important to always be prepared in times like this.”
