A local man was arrested Thursday night after allegedly striking his wife during an argument at their residence.
Marco Antonio Garcia Sr., 30, of 252 Eleven Oaks Trail, was taken into custody shortly after 8:30 p.m. at his residence and charged with third-degree domestic battery, a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail.
Garcia was initially held without bond after his arrest and remained in custody Friday in lieu of $2,000 bond. He is set to appear Jan. 14 in Garland County District Court.
According to the report, Garland County sheriff’s Deputy Clayton Green responded to the residence in reference to a disturbance, and upon arrival was met by a silver Dodge pickup pulling out of the driveway.
He stopped the vehicle and made contact with the driver, identified as Garcia, and upon checking determined Garcia’s driver’s license was suspended and the tags on the pickup returned to a different vehicle. Green asked Garcia what had happened at the residence and he reportedly stated he and his wife “got into it” and that both of them “said things” and he was just trying to leave.
Green spoke to the victim, 30, who stated that after she got out of the shower her husband “started in on her” making comments and the argument turned physical. She alleges he punched her in the head and slapped her across the face while she was holding their 10-month-old son, who was not injured.
The report notes the victim had visible redness to her cheek and a small bump on her head. The victim apparently did not require any medical treatment, but was “in fear of the suspect.”
Garcia, who denied hitting the victim, was taken into custody without incident and taken to the detention center.
