The Muskogee Police Department requested OSBI investigate a police-involved shooting that occurred a block and a half from the police station. Just after noon today at 4th and Elgin an officer pulled over a vehicle reported stolen. The officer escorted the driver out of the vehicle. The officer asked one of two passengers to exit the vehicle when that man reportedly grabbed the officer's gun. Another Muskogee police officer at the scene shot Thomas Estes (d.o.b. 5-30- 1980). Estes, of Muskogee, was transported by ambulance to a Muskogee hospital and then flown to St. John's hospital in Tulsa where he underwent surgery. As always, OSBI will not release the name of the officer since he is the subject of the investigation. The district attorney will decide if the shooting was justified.
