Paper City Savings is hosting their 2014 Blood Drive through the BloodCenter of Wisconsin on Monday, January 13, 2014.
Paper City Savings is hosting their 2014 Blood Drive through the BloodCenter of Wisconsin on Monday, January 13, 2014 in the atrium of our 8th Street Office from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. BloodCenter of Wisconsin is the only supplier of blood products to over 50 Wisconsin community hospitals. Help them to spread the word!
Donors can sign up online at www.bcw.edu/papercity or you can call Tina Bartram at 715-422-1814. Please note that you are required to bring a picture ID on the day of the donation.
A whole blood donation takes about 45 minutes from start to finish. The actual donation part takes approximately 7-10 minutes and the rest of the time is the registration/screening process/cafe. The screening process is quite simple, blood pressure, pulse, temperature and a drop of blood is taken from the tip of your finger to test iron count. You must weigh at least 110 pounds to be eligible to donate. If you are taking any medications, you will want to bring a list including names and dosages. Anyone taking an antibiotic for an infection on the day of the drive will not be allowed to donate. If you have any questions about medical conditions or travel outside the USA that may affect your ability to donate, please call 1-888-310-7555. Piercings are acceptable as long as done in a clean/sterile environment and tattoos are acceptable as long as they were done in Wisconsin or are older than 12 months.
Besides looking for whole blood donors, the BloodCenter is looking for a few individuals who would be willing to do a double red cell donation (Type O+/O- are the preferred blood type for this donation). This process takes about 1 ½ hours. They are also looking for platelet donors. This process takes about 2 hours and the blood is used for cancer patients.
It is very important to eat healthy prior to donating blood. Women especially need to eat foods high in iron (green leafy vegetables, raisins, eggs, fish or other foods fortified with iron). Orange juice is a good beverage, even though it is not high in iron, it will help to absorb the iron. A good night’s rest and hydration are also very important leading up to your donation. As an FYI, you may want to limit coffee as it actually dehydrates you.
Paper City Savings will be providing breakfast and lunch foods to donors. Snacks/juices/water will also be provided. These are very important after a donation.
Thank you for your help in spreading the word about this event! Feel free to print and display the attached poster at your business.
