A local man was arrested late Tuesday after allegedly attacking his live-in girlfriend in front of her children during an argument, causing an injury to her mouth.
Terry Don Record, 32, of 3133 Albert Pike Road, Lot 25, was taken into custody at his residence shortly before 10 p.m. and charged with third-degree domestic battery, a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail.
He was still being held without bond Wednesday and is set to appear Jan. 7 in Garland County District Court.
According to reports, around 9:30 p.m., Garland County sheriff’s Cpl. Robbie Swinney and Deputy Richard Huffman were dispatched to the trailer park regarding a battery that had already occurred there and were met by the victim, 29, at the tire shop near the park.
She stated she and her boyfriend, identified as Record, got into an argument about money and Record got mad and slapped her in the face, pushed her and then grabbed her by her mouth and pulled on it, causing the skin to rip under her tongue.
She stated while the fight was going on, her two children, ages 7 and 9, tried to pull Record off her. At one point, she told her son, 9, to call 911. She alleges Record grabbed her son and held him down to take the phone away so he couldn’t call.
She said she told her son to run to the neighbors to call so he did. The deputies noted the victim had a cut under her tongue and was still bleeding.
Huffman said he spoke to the two children who were “very upset and crying” and they both stated the suspect slapped their mother, pushed her and grabbed her by the mouth and “started pulling on it.”
The son also stated when he tried to call 911 the suspect grabbed him and took the phone away.
The deputies went to the couple’s trailer and spoke to Record who had also reportedly called 911. He reportedly admitted he slapped the victim, but only after she slapped him and hit him in the nose. He claimed it was an accident and he “doesn’t do that kind of stuff.”
Huffman noted Record didn’t have any marks on him and was taken into custody without incident.
