Advisory

UPDATE: Shelter-In-Place advisory lifted by Redwood City Fire. Still advisable to avoid outdoors if smell persists.

UPDATE: The Redwood City Fire Department has officially lifted its Shelter-In-Place advisory.  However, if you continue to smell smoke and or burning plastic, it is still advisable to avoid exposure by staying indoors.

Original message:

A two-alarm fire that broke out early this morning at SIMS Metal in Redwood City is now under control, however, smoke is still lingering in the area.

If you smell smoke, or a burning plastic smell, the Redwood City Police Department advises you to Shelter-In-Place until the smoke and/or smell subsides.  Shelter-In-Place means to stay indoors and close all windows and doors to keep outside air from getting into your home or building.
