The NPD is collecting bicycle helmets to distribute to children who are found in need and without the means to afford one.

The Newark Police Department would like to remind all parents of the crucial role they play in helping their children develop good bicycle and other wheeled device safety habits. As you all know, it is required by law that all children and teens under 18 years of age wear a properly fitted and secured helmet while using a bicycle, skateboard, scooter, or any other wheeled device, in order to greatly increase their chances for a quick recovery in any type of collision or fall.

During this Holiday Season, while you are already out and about shopping for those you love, please take this opportunity to purchase a helmet for your children to use when riding their wheeled devices. If you are looking for a good cause to donate to, the Newark Police Department also accepts donations of new, unwrapped bicycle helmets in child, youth, and teen sizes, for distribution to those children who are found in need of a helmet and without the means to afford one.

Please consider purchasing a helmet for a child or teen, and providing it for their use in your community, while shopping this holiday season. Helmets can be dropped off at the Newark Police Department located at 37101 Newark Blvd., Newark. Thank you for your attention and support!!
