Stabbing Suspect - IN CUSTODY

Stabbing suspect Jose Ascencio Gomez is now booked in Central Jail downtown.
Deputies with the Imperial Beach Sheriff's Station arrested Gomez at the intersection of Palm Avenue and 9th Street. Gomez was seen walking near a drug store in the area and that tip led deputies to set up a perimeter in the area and take Gomez into custody. The Sheriff's Department wants your help in locating a man in connection with a stabbing in Imperial Beach. It happened just after 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 14th in the 600 block of 11th Street.
Investigators say 56-year old Jose Ascencio Gomez stabbed his ex-wife in the chest several times after she let him inside her home to use the phone. The woman was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Gomez left the scene on foot. Despite a thorough search of the neighborhood, Sheriff's Deputies were not able to locate him. The suspect's family members say they believe he may now be in Mexico.
Gomez is wanted on suspicion of attempted murder. If you see Gomez, DO NOT approach him. He is considered ARMED AND DANGEROUS. If you have any information on Gomez's whereabouts, call the Sheriff's Department at (858) 565-5200.
