Project Medicine Drop Box which will be located at the 22 Franklin Street, beginning Saturday, December 14, 2013.

The Newark Police Department has partnered with the New Jersey Attorney General's Office and the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs to combat the abuse of prescription drugs with their participation with the Project Medicine Drop.

The purpose of Project Medicine Drop Box is to halt the diversion and abuse of prescription drugs. Project Medicine Drop allows the public to anonymously deposit their unused or expired household pharmaceutical medication 24 hours a day, seven days per week free of charge. This opportunity prevents unused medication from falling into the hands of those who may abuse and also provides a safe procedure for disposing unused medication.

The public will be allowed to dispose of their unused or expired medication into a Project Medicine Drop Box which will be located at the Newark Police Department Facility at 22 Franklin Street, beginning Saturday, December 14, 2013.

The following different forms of medication will be accepted for disposal: pills, capsules, patches, unused/expired medication and pet medications. Please note that syringes and all forms of liquid medication will NOT be accepted.
“The Newark Police Department continues to uphold their commitment to public safety by participating in Project Medicine Drop. This program provides the community with an avenue to properly dispose of medication that can fall into the hands of unintended users which usually leads to drug addiction or death,” stated Newark Police Director Samuel DeMaio.
