TPD arrests suspect for two robberies of local hotels
Torrance Police Detectives filed two counts of felony armed robbery and one count of felony evading on a 53-year-old male stemming from three South Bay robberies he was connected with during the long Thanksgiving weekend.
Nathaniel Joseph Allen out of Gardena was arrested by Torrance Police after he committed an armed robbery at the Courtyard Marriott, 1900 block of 190 St. in the City of Torrance during the afternoon hours on Thursday, November 28, 2013.
Allen was spotted by patrol officers leaving the location in a red sedan and after a pursuit that lead officers eastbound on the 91 Freeway, he exited on to Main St. and subsequently crashed in the area of 135/Alondra in the City of Carson.
After fleeing on foot from his damaged vehicle, Allen was located a short time later and taken into custody without incident hiding in a nearby backyard.
Through their investigation, Torrance Detectives were able to link Allen to a second robbery that occurred during the evening hours on
November 27, 2013, at the Courtyard Marriott at 2600 block of
Sepulveda Blvd.
Detectives were also able to link Allen to a third robbery that occurred on November 27, 2013, at the Palos Verdes Inn at 1900 Pacific Coast Highway in the City of Redondo Beach. Redondo Beach Detectives will be presenting their case to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office at a later date.
Torrance Detectives do not believe Allen was involved in the armed robbery at Yum Yum Donuts at the 17200 block of Prairie Ave. in Torrance on November 27, 2013, where the lone suspect entered the business, brandished a stabbing instrument and robbed the business before stabbing the victim in the upper torso. The victim was transported to a local hospital and is currently in stable condition.
The lone suspect in that crime is described as a black male, 50 years old, 6 foot, thin, with black hair, a goatee and last seen wearing an orange shirt, khaki pants, white sneakers and a dark blue baseball hat.
The Torrance investigations are being investigated under the command of Captain Bernard Anderson of the Torrance Police Department, Special Operations Bureau. Anyone with additional information about these incidents is encouraged to contact the Torrance Police Department at (310) 618-5570.
