A local man was arrested on felony and misdemeanor charges Sunday night after allegedly attacking his wife, threatening her with a gun and later resisting arrest by Garland County sheriff’s deputies.
Kenneth Wayne Buck, 62, who lives in the Treasure Isle RV Park, 205 Treasure Isle Road, Row A, Lot 2, was taken into custody shortly after 6 p.m. and charged with a felony count of aggravated assault, punishable by up to six years in prison, and misdemeanor counts of third-degree domestic battery, punishable by up to one year in jail, refusal to submit to arrest, and disorderly conduct.
Buck, who lists no prior felony history, remained in custody Monday with a zero bond on the domestic battery charge and bonds totaling $3,750 on the other counts. He is set to appear Dec. 24 in Garland County District Court.
According to reports, shortly before 6 p.m., GCSD Deputies Matthew Wharton and Richard Huffman were dispatched to the RV park in reference to a disturbance involving multiple firearms and upon arrival made contact with the victim, 52, who stated her husband, identified as Buck, had attacked her.
She stated Buck had pressed a handgun to the left side of her head, pushed her to the ground and pointed a shotgun at her during an argument in their residence and then forced her outside in below freezing temperatures.
The deputies knocked on the door of the couple’s RV and Buck opened it. He reportedly asked who they were and the deputies identified themselves and ordered him to show his hands and step out of the RV.
Buck allegedly refused and kept his hands on either side of the front door. Wharton states he ordered Buck to show his hands three more times, but he still refused so he grabbed him out of the doorway and placed him on the ground.
Buck reportedly attempted to pull away while he was being handcuffed, but they were able to restrain him and get him put into a sheriff’s unit. Wharton noted Buck had a strong odor of intoxicants on his breath, red, watery eyes and slurred speech.
The victim gave deputies permission to search the RV and they reportedly located a 9 mm handgun under a pillow on the sofa and a 12-gauge shotgun next to the sofa. He noted the shotgun was loaded to maximum capacity with one round in the chamber and safety off, but the 9 mm did not have a magazine in it and the chamber was empty.
The victim stated the argument started over her making him leave a bar they were at earlier. She said when they got back to the RV he began calling her a “controlling b——” and then grabbed her, threw her on a bench seat and put the handgun to the left side of her head.
She said she was able to get the handgun away from him and she removed the magazine and emptied the chamber.
She said Buck then grabbed her again, threw her on the bed, pointed the shotgun at her and told her to “get the f—- out!”
The deputies noted the victim had redness with swelling to her left eye and a blood blister on her left palm, but she declined medical treatment. The firearms were collected as evidence and Buck was taken to the detention center.
