A Sherwood man was arrested on misdemeanor charges late Thursday after allegedly kicking in a door at a local apartment complex after being told to leave.
Keith D. Lawson, 33, was taken into custody shortly before 10 p.m. at Morphew Apartments, 160 Morphew Road, and charged with first-degree criminal mischief, punishable by up to one year in jail, and public intoxication.
He was later released on $1,500 bond and is set to appear Dec. 17 in district court.
According to the report, shortly after 9:30 p.m., GCSD Deputy Richard Huffman was dispatched to the apartments regarding a man causing a disturbance and spoke to a female witness, 21, who was reportedly with Lawson and stated she wouldn’t have come there with him if she had known he was going to behave the way he did.
The deputy got to the apartment and could still hear the suspect banging on the door and yelling. He made contact with Lawson as a second witness, 36, was trying to get out of the apartment. The report notes she was briefly trapped because the door had been damaged when Lawson kicked it and was blocking her.
She finally had to kick the door out of the way to get out and she told Huffman Lawson became angry when she tried to make him leave because he was drunk and that was when he kicked in the door. She also noted he had “got physical” with her at one point.
The apartment manager, 50, came to the scene and told Huffman she wanted Lawson charged and banned from the property.
