Road closures for the 20th Anniversary Turkey Run, Thanksgiving Morning in La Canda Flintridge

This Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, November 28, 2013, the 20th Anniversary 5K Run/Walk, 1 Mile Kids’ Run, and Food Drive will take place in La Canada Flintridge at Memorial Park.

The Thanksgiving Day 5K run/walk has been a local tradition and a community favorite with families, athletes, and community supporters of all types for two decades. The race is professionally timed, and begins promptly at 8:30 AM at Memorial Park in La Cañada Flintridge. Please bring a non-perishable food items with you on race day. The Run & Food Drive is a major fundraiser for the La Canada Flintridge Community Center and proceeds are used to support their year round programs. For 20 years as many as 2,000 participants annually have run along Foothill Blvd at this popular event.

The Community Center spearheads the largest Food Drive in the Foothill communities. Canned food is collected during the month of November at locations in La Cañada Flintridge, La Crescenta and Montrose. Non-perishable food donations are distributed by the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station to local families in need. In 2012, the food collected served over 150 families.

Drop off your food donations at the Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge during the month of November or bring your food donations to the Thanksgiving Day Run & Food Drive at Memorial Park. Donating food or store gift cards during the holidays is a rewarding way to give back to the community. We hope you will join the Community Center for this worthwhile endeavor.

This run/walk will cause road closures along Foothill Blvd. between Ocean View Blvd. and Angeles Crest Highway. Please be prepared for detours and pedestrian traffic in and around these areas as well as traffic congestion. The closures will begin at approximately 7:00 AM until approximately 12:00 PM. Please use alternate routes on Thanksgiving morning to delays.

We hope you will join us as we celebrate 20 years! Thanks for Giving! Happy Thanksgiving for your Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station!
