SCAM ALERT: Callers offering prizes in exchange for your money on pack cards; don't fall prey to con

McDowell County sheriff’s deputies urge citizens to steer clear of a scam involving money pack cards.
Money pack cards can be purchased at Walmart and other stores. People put money on them and use them like debit cards.
There has been at least one instance of a caller phoning a local couple, saying they had won a substantial amount of money, and in order to claim their prize, they had to buy a pack card, put money on it and give the caller the code on the back.
That grants the caller access to the money put on the card.
Detective Paul Alkire said the calls are coming from a phone number in Jamaica.
Investigators advise people not to fall prey to the money pack card scam, not to send money to anyone they don’t know and not to give out their personal information.
