Advisory

The NWS in Lubbock has just issued a Winter Storm Watch for Lubbock County from 0600 Friday morning until 0600 on Tuesday morning

The NWS in Lubbock has just issued a Winter Storm Watch for Lubbock County from 0600 Friday morning until 0600 on Tuesday morning. Please monitor local media outlets and NWS website for the latest weather information. NWS Lubbock is also on Twitter and Facebook.

Temperatures will continue to fall this afternoon and through the night. The winds will remain gusty causing windchills in the teens and single digits. Hi temps on Friday will be in the upper 20's.

Precipitation will likely begin as drizzle over night. Freezing drizzle and freezing rain will be possible throughout the day on Friday, with the best chance over night on Friday into Saturday. Another round of freezing rain or wintery mix is expected Saturday night into Sunday. It is possible that we may have .25" to .5" of ice accumulation before the system moves off on Monday or Tuesday. It is unclear if we will see any accumulating snow from this storm, but Sunday into Monday would be the best chance if we are going to.

Travel problems could start occurring by rush hour Friday morning. With warm ground temperatures it may take a while for ground level roads to become slick, but bridges and overpasses may be slick Friday morning. If the freezing precipitation does come in as predicted there could be area wide travel problems. Poor road conditions could last through Monday.
