Description of the Volunteers on Patrol Program:

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Norwalk Station, Volunteers On Patrol are dedicated to providing excellent service through relationships that build trust, create a safe environment, and enhance the quality of life in our communities within a “Tradition of Service”.

The primary objectives for the members shall be to prevent crime by mere presence, or identify public hazards. Members shall also act as the eyes and ears of the Sheriff's Department by identifying suspicious activities, crimes in progress, or dangerous circumstances. The members shall not take action themselves, but shall notify the proper authorities for handling. Volunteers on patrol assist deputies with their daily duties by providing traffic control at accident scenes, search for lost children and adults, attend school functions, and respond to emergencies throughout the county.

The Volunteers On Patrol members accept their mission to serve the community with the enduring belief that in so doing, they will maintain the high level of safety, quality of life, and the beauty of the community that everyone is entitled.

The minimum age requirement is 18 yrs old. A complete background investigation will be conducted and only qualified applicants will be accepted. All volunteers are required to work a minimum of 16 hours a month to stay active in the program. A uniform is required and must be purchased by the volunteers.

If you are interested in joining the volunteer program and becoming part of a professional team, come to Norwalk Sheriff’s Station at 12335 Civic Center Drive, Norwalk, CA 90650 and pick-up an application today. Interviews will be starting in November. For additional information, contact Sgt. Brian Doyle at 562-466-5455.
