On November 1, 2013 at 10 p.m. Deputy U. B. Smith stopped a Red 2001 Dodge Durango for an equipment violation near State Road 65 and Mark Ford Road. During a road side investigation Deputy Smith detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on the driver Ryan N Peterson age 44 of Rural Patoka. Deputy Smith administered Field Sobriety Tests to Mr. Peterson, but Mr. Peterson refused to provide a sample for a portable breath test. At the close of the roadside investigation Mr. Peterson was taken to the Gibson County Jail where he refused to provide a breath sample for the certified breath test. Mr. Peterson was charged with Operating While Intoxicated with a prior refusal when it was learned that he had been convicted in Vanderburgh County in 2009 for OWI/ Chemical Test Refusal. Mr. Peterson has since posted a $750 bond.
