Sheriff Sanders warns beware of scam where victim is selling items, and they receive a check that the amount exceeds the price of the items.
A local resident reported that she sells beauty products, and was contacted via email by the suspect that they wanted to order some items. The victim sent the suspect the total for the items and received a check in the amount of $1970.00. The amount of the check was substantially more than than the cost of the beauty products. The suspect told the victim the amount on the check was a mistake and to cash the check, then send the remaining balance back via a money order. Fortunately, the victim knew this was a scam.
Beware, as these scam artists are also targeting people who are selling items on Craigslist.
