Othello man suffers minor injuries during semi versus train collision near Warden ||
WARDEN, Wash. (19OCT2013) – A 38-year-old Othello man suffered minor injuries yesterday when the semi-truck he was driving was struck by a train.
Around 3:00 pm, emergency responders were called to the El Oro Cattle Company, 18857 County Road 2-Southeast, for a train versus semi-truck collision.
Jamie Veliz was driving a 2004 Peterbilt pulling two hopper trailers and tried to cross the train tracks at a private crossing on the El Oro property. A southbound Columbia Basin Railroad train struck Veliz’s Peterbilt and pushed it off the west side of the tracks. Veliz received minor injuries and was treated and released at Samaritan Hospital. The train’s three crew members were not hurt.
The Peterbilt was a total loss, but the hopper trailers were not damaged. The train sustained minor damage.
The collision was investigated by the Grant County Sheriff’s Office Motor Traffic Unit and Columbia Basin Railroad.
