CONCORD, N.H. — A horse in Belmont tested positive for West Nile virus the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services announced Wednesday.

The risk level was raised to high in the town of Belmont. The level has been raised to moderate in Northfield, Tilton, Sanbornton, Laconia, Gilford, Gilmanton and Canterbury following the positive test, officials said.

So far this season, 14 of 5,174 batches of mosquitoes the state has tested have tested positive for West Nile and Eastern equine encephalitis, officials said. One person was diagnosed with West Nile virus and three horses have tested positive for EEE.

Symptoms of West Nile virus usually appear four to 10 days after a bite, officials said. People with West Nile virus may experience flu-like symptoms, including fever and headaches, officials said.
